Working-class politics for the ACT

Powerbelongsto the people

We organise working people across Canberra and the ACT to build a fairer, freer society — one where democracy runs deeper than a vote every few years, and where solidarity is how we survive and thrive.

What we stand for
01

Democracy

Real democracy means working people having a genuine say over the decisions that shape their lives — in workplaces, communities, and government alike.

02

Equality

A society worth living in guarantees dignity and opportunity for everyone — not as charity, but as the natural result of collective ownership and fair distribution.

03

Solidarity

An injury to one is an injury to all. We build bonds of mutual support across industries, communities and borders because that is how lasting change is made.

04

Collective Action

Individual effort alone cannot transform unjust systems. It is through organised, collective action that working people have always won their greatest victories.

Rooted in theworking class

ACT Socialists is a political organisation committed to building a genuinely democratic, egalitarian society. We believe the fundamental conflict in modern life is between those who own and control the economy and those who must work to survive.

Socialism, for us, is not an abstract ideal but a practical project: extending democratic control over the economy, redistributing wealth and power, and building institutions that serve the many rather than the few.

We are part of a long tradition of working-class resistance and imagination — from the early labour movement to the struggles for civil rights, from environmental campaigns to international solidarity. We learn from that history, and we work to continue it.

Our politics are grounded in the conviction that ordinary people, when organised and informed, are capable of transforming their world. No vanguard will do it for them. The task is to build the collective power that makes transformation possible.
